DC-Based Senior Consultant

The Curtis Group, a leading national fundraising consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to join our growing team. The position has a critical role in our firm, designed for a professional who brings deep fundraising expertise, strong client leadership skills, and an established presence in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) region.

The position serves as a trusted fundraising strategist and philanthropic partner to nonprofit clients, delivering customized, research-based strategies and hands-on support. The Senior Consultant works directly with the firm’s leadership, consultants, and associate consultants to oversee a client portfolio focused on major-gift program expansion, campaign management and capacity building. This role is ideal for a professional with progressively responsible experience in nonprofit advancement or development, including campaign experience, a strong regional network, a true passion for philanthropy, and a proven track record of relationship-based business development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a lead consultant overseeing development and execution of capacity building, planning study and campaign strategy in a multi-client portfolio
  • Ensuring all internal and client materials meet the highest standards and have been developed in a thoughtful and timely manner
  • Conducting thoughtful, confidential one-on-one planning study interviews with major philanthropists
  • Developing and guiding individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for donor prospects
  • Developing trusted partnerships with clients and campaign volunteers and serving as a strategic advisor to organizational leadership and boards
  • Providing guidance and oversight of other team members assigned to the client team
  • Ensuring accountability to agreed-upon timelines by proactively managing client expectations, guiding next steps, and addressing barriers to progress
  • Delivering formal presentations to clients, their boards and external audiences
  • Reviewing and approving materials for, and participating in, client check-in meetings and committee meetings
  • Maintaining timely follow-up after client meetings and overseeing project timelines
  • Participating in, and at times leading, the training of campaign staff and volunteers
  • Actively contributing to business development efforts by identifying, cultivating, and supporting new client opportunities, leveraging an established professional network, and collaborating with firm leadership on growth opportunities
  • Seeking and sharing industry trends and knowledge through presentations, webinars and written articles
  • Representing The Curtis Group at industry events and within the sector with key professional organizations, with particular emphasis on engagement in the DMV region

This full-time position requires a professional who has demonstrated success in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-faceted organization, preferably with major-gift and campaign management experience. The successful candidate will work well on a team as well as independently within established guidelines, be an energetic, self-directed, flexible, organized, detail-oriented individual with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks at one time and meet frequent deadlines. It is imperative that they possess superior verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and hold a minimum of a BS/BA degree. The position requires 8–10+ years of development experience, with prior fundraising consulting experience strongly preferred. After-hours meetings/events and travel are required.

 

This is a remote position, with periodic travel to client sites and firm gatherings. Seeking candidates based in the DMV metro region. The Curtis Group offers a competitive salary range ($130,000-$175,000 depending on experience) with opportunity for bonus and growth. Hampton Roads-Based Associate Consultant

The Curtis Group, a leading national fundraising consulting firm, is seeking an Associate Consultant to join our growing team. The Associate Consultant position offers a rare opportunity for an individual with a demonstrated interest in and passion for nonprofit development to build foundational fundraising consulting skills and assist our clients in building fundraising capacity and increasing impact.

The position works directly with the firm’s leadership and consultants to manage our clients’ campaigns, assessments and studies. The Associate Consultant serves as a critical project manager, ensuring day-to-day management and communication with multiple clients across diverse sectors and geographic regions. Successful candidates will be able to produce strategically thought-out written materials of the highest quality, ranging from abbreviated case statements to robust campaign planning study findings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing trusted partnerships with clients, volunteers and internal project teams
  • Contributing to development of planning studies and campaign strategy under the guidance of senior team members
  • Coordinating materials for planning studies and campaigns including timelines, tracking documents, scheduling logistics, presentations/reports
  • Producing materials for, and participating in, client study and assessment meetings
  • Conducting prospect research and synthesizing findings to support client strategy
  • Supporting preparation for formal presentations to clients and their boards
  • Maintaining timely follow-up after client meetings and ensuring project timelines for key deliverables are met
  • Seeking and sharing industry trends with teammates
  • Representing The Curtis Group at industry events and within regional nonprofit and philanthropic communities, as appropriate

The successful candidate will work well on a team as well as independently within established guidelines, be an energetic, self-directed, flexible, organized, detail-oriented individual with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks at one time and meet frequent deadlines. This is a writing-intensive position and it is imperative that they possess superior written communication skills and experience. The candidate must also have excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and hold a minimum of a BS/BA degree. The position requires 3–5 years of relevant development or nonprofit sector experience. Occasional after-hours meetings/events and travel are required.

This full-time position requires a professional who has demonstrated success in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-faceted organization. This is a remote position, with periodic travel to client sites. Seeking candidates in the Hampton Roads and Central Virginia regions. The Curtis Group offers a competitive salary for this position in the range of $65,000-$73,000 (depending on experience) with opportunity for growth.  A generous benefits package includes health, life, disability, and dental insurance, retirement plan (with company match), paid time off, and holidays.
